Ren & Stimpy Show Reinvented TV Animation
There are some classic animation shows such as The
Simpsons (1989) and Animated Series (1992) adult sitcoms that persist to this
day. I grew up on the show The Ren & Stimpy Show on Nickelodeon. The show
first premiered 30 years ago on August 11, 1991. When the show first aired,
there was a knock-off version of the show imitating it. Nickelodeon claims they
are no longer doing knock-off versions of shows. However, there are knock-off
versions of Spongebob Squarepants called Kamp Koral and a Patrick Star Show reboot.
The article stated, “Artists who currently work in the industry weren’t born
during the Ren & Stimpy era, so it is difficult to imagine animation on
television at that time.” Since I was born in 2000, I am familiar with some
90’s shows that were constantly playing on Nickelodeon and Boomerang. All the
shows I watched from my childhood were made in the 90s. I was there when we had big, boxed
televisions and VCRs. I was born at the beginning of things changing and evolving
for the better with better quality, big, flat-screen TVs. Even though a show
was made 30 years ago, it was never forgotten. The animators Genndy
Tartakovsky, Craig McCracken, and Stephen Hillenburg created shows just as
memorable as Ren & Stimpy. For example, Spongebob SquarePants is a memorable
show that remained as the number one rated kids’ series for 20 years. It’s the
dignity, commitment, and craftsmanship that keep these shows memorable.
